In 1932, David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896-1974), one of the great Mexican artists of the 20th Century, was commissiond to paint an idealized tropical scene on a second story exterior wall on Olvera Street. Siqueiros instead created America Tropical, a monumental mural depicting indigenous oppression and a call to revolution.
